Barcelona Continue To Push for La Liga Title

The race for the La Liga title is looking like it will go down to the wire, with three clubs involved. Barcelona will be looking for a third straight title. Real Madrid are currently top of the league, with Barcelona one point behind and Sevilla a further two points behind.

Barcelona are currently 13/8 second favourites to lift the title, behind rivals Real Madrid who are favourites at 1/2. During the last ten games Barcelona have closed in on their fierce rivals and with 14 games left to play, we look set for a great finish. Barcelona are unbeaten in their last ten games, winning eight and drawing two, and that has been the period where they have closed in on Real Madrid. The league leaders have lost two games and drawn one in their last ten, opening the door for Barcelona.

After winning the last two La Liga titles, Barcelona know what it takes to win and you wouldn’t rule them out lifting a third title, even if they were further behind at this point. They are pretty much out of the Champions League thanks to a shock 4-0 defeat to PSG in the first leg of their game, so challenging for the title is a must this season. Barcelona is one of the few clubs in the world where winning a domestic or European title is required pretty much every single season.

Sevilla are in third place and are close enough to challenge the big two but they don’t seem to have the quality, or experience to go ahead of both Barcelona and Real Madrid and win the title. The bookies currently have Sevilla at 40/1 to win LaLiga.

The key month in the title race looks likely to be April, when Barcelona play both of their title rivals. They face Sevilla at home before playing away against Real Madrid and you get the feeling that those games are going to go a long way in deciding where the title goes this season.

The La Liga title looks likely to go right to the final few games as both Barcelona and Real Madrid don’t look like they will drop many points. Sevilla have a chance but I expect them to fade away over the next few weeks, leaving the top two to battle it out right until the end of the season. With the talent they have on the pitch, and the previous experience of winning league titles, Barcelona are a great 13/8 chance in what looks likely to develop into a two horse race between the two Spanish giants.
