Amazing Bets And Major Upsets – What We Learnt From The 2018/19 Season

If the two 2019 Champions League semis taught as anything, it is that anything can happen. Well, anything can happen to those who believe. Mo Salah’s shirt really said it all – Never Give Up. Some punters have that attitude to sports betting, but betting that a team would proceed to the next stage after a 3-0 loss in the first match, isn’t really what you’d call a smart bet.

From a bookie’s perspective, major upsets are usually lucrative, as punters tend to go for safe bets in most cases. But there are usually few players who manage to make a fortune on such matches. Still, in most cases, it is fans of the involved teams that make bets when nobody else seems to believe that they can make it. We all remember the 2015-16 season when Leicester managed to win the Premier League. Yes, it seemed impossible and the odds for Leicester to win the Premier League before the season began were 5,000 to 1.

One punter placed a £50 bet when the odds were 5,000 to 1 and decided to cash out £72,000, although he could’ve won £250,000 if he waited until Leicester won the title. Another punter was more patient and see through the end of the season, albeit he placed the bet when the odds were 2,000 to 1, in October 2015. This anonymous punter won £200,000 with a £100 wager.

It could be said, without any exaggerations, that this sort of bets are a lot more alike winning the jackpot on a casino game than a sports bet that was well thought through. In fact, it is easier, statistically speaking, to win a prize on Double Bubble than a bet where the odds are 5,000 to 1, or even 2,000 to 1. In case you’re not familiar with this exciting and colourful slot, check out Double Bubble review at SlotsWise and you’ll find out all about it.

However, there is one difference between placing a wager on an online slot and on your favourite team, well, one notable difference that is – when you bet on your team you pick them over all other teams and against all odds and that doesn’t really happen when you’re playing slots. Sure, you may prefer one game over another, but it’s not like you would only play one slot game and one slot game.

We read all these stories about players who hit casino jackpots, either online, or at a land-based casinos, but the stories of football winners are a lot more exciting. But, enough about that, can anybody predict what is going to happen next? Who will win the Champions League and what will happen next season?

It will be pretty difficult, but there are few things that we can conclude from this season, even before it is over. First of all, the Premier League has once again become Europe’s most competitive and one could objectively argue, best league. Spurs have shown that you don’t need to spend millions to qualify for the Champions League Final. Liverpool and Klopp have also proven that their systematic approach and their likeable football can pay off and yield results, even though we still can’t confirm whether they’ll end the season with one, two or no major titles.

And lastly, we can also say that, at least for the time being, the dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona, and Spanish teams in general, is over, after no Spanish team managed to reach the Champions League Final. Also, this is the first CL Final that doesn’t feature Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo for the first time since 2013. Let’s enjoy the magic that is football and see what happens next.
