Bayern Munich vs. Dortmund: Match Preview

Bayern Munich

The title is almost in their hands – 7 rounds are left and Bayern have 17 points more than the second-placed Schalke. What this means is that the team from Munich only needs a couple more points to ensure the Bundesliga title stays in their closet for another year.

In fact, if things go their way, Bayern can win the title this weekend. For that to happen, they need to see Schalke failing to beat Freiburg. Of course, Bayern also need to win in the “German Clasico”. That seems like a very lovely scenario for the Bavarian side, as it would allow them to switch their focus entirely on the Champions League, in which they play Sevilla in the quarterfinal.

But, can they do it? Do Bayern Munich player have the quality necessary to beat Dortmund? Of course they do! We’re talking about the best team in Germany, which has scored 66 goals in 27 Bundesliga games, while allowing just 20 along the way.

The most prolific goal-scorer in the league plays for Bayern – Lewandowski. On top of that, the player with the second highest number of assists this season, Joshua Kimmich, also plays for this team. We also mustn’t forget Real Madrid loanee, James Rodrigues, as well as Vidal and Tolisso, along with many other top-class players.

The final reason why I believe Bayern have what it takes to win on Saturday is the fact that one of the greatest managers in history currently sits on their bench. I’m talking about Jupp Heynckes, a 72-year-old who’s going back to the retirement at the end of the season.

Borussia Dortmund

Unlike Bayern who are led by a world-known manager, BVB’s head coach is Peter Stöger, an ex-Koln manager, who got this job last December when Peter Bosz left the club. It seems that hiring Stöger was a brilliant idea, as this side is still without a defeat in Bundesliga since he’s in charge of the team.

Borussia Dortmund are currently on the 3rd spot on the table, with just 1 point less than Schalke who are occupying the 2nd spot. Unfortunately, the competition is pretty tough, so BVB need to play very well until the end of the season if they want to stay in a position that leads to the Champions League. There are several teams breathing by their neck, including Eintracht Frankfurt who have only 3 points less.

All of this means that Dortmund players are going to be fired up in the clash with Bayern. Unfortunately for them, they have a very bad history with Bayern, especially in matches played in Munich. In fact, Borussia have won only 4 games at Bayern’s stadium since 1998.

Bayern Munich vs. Dortmund: Match Prediction

I think anything but a big Bayern Munich win would be a huge surprise. Not only does this team have better players, but Bayern are also in a better form than their opponent. They will also have the home turf advantage as the game is played at the Allianz Arena, where Bayern are without a league defeat since early March 2016!
