Leicester City vs. Chelsea: Match Preview

Leicester City

Leicester City are on a highly respectable 8th place on the English Premier League table, but the chances are very low that they’ll end up on a spot that leads to one of UEFA competitions next season.  Doing well in the FA Cup would mean getting qualified for the Europa League. Obviously, they won’t be lacking motivation in the clash with Chelsea but what about their player quality?

Although no one can deny that Leicester have a decent squad, their players are just not capable of achieving the same level of cusses as they did in 2016, when they won the league. However, they’ve been on a pretty decent run lately, winning two out of four previous matches. In fact, the last time they lost was in early February, when Manchester City thrashed them 5:1.

The fact that they lost heavily to Man City brings out the question of how good Leicester City are when playing against tougher sides. This Sunday they play against Chelsea, with whom they played two times already this season in the Premier League. In January, they played 0:0 at the Stamford Bridge, but in September, Leicester lost 2:1 at the King Power Stadium.

Chelsea

Unlike Leicester City, Chelsea have been in a pretty poor form latterly. To be frank, their bad results aren’t just their fault – Chelsea played against some really tough opponents in the last couple of weeks, including Manchester United, Manchester City, and Barcelona.

Same as Leicester, Chelsea also have no chance of winning a major trophy apart from the FA Cup. This is why you can be sure they will take this match seriously. The Blues are on the 5th spot in the league, so they’ll have to play at a very high level until the end of the season if they want to get higher and book a Champions League spot.

Beating Leicester would do very nice to their motivation, giving them boost to fight until the season end. Unfortunately, playing away from the Stamford Bridge is something they haven’t been good at this season. At least not in the last five games, all of which they’ve lost.

Leicester City vs. Chelsea Match Prediction

Leicester have only won one game against Chelsea in the last decade and the chances are high they won’t get another one this weekend. It’s a fact that they haven’t been playing well when faced against tougher opponents; the only thing that goes in their favor is the poor run of Chelsea. Still, I don’t think Leicester have what it takes to take advantage of it. I’m pretty confident Chelsea will qualify to the next round.
