Having lost to Manchester City last Sunday, there is practically no hope of Arsenal ever winning the Premier league this season. Many Arsenal fans and pundits alike knew right from the beginning that the Gunners have little or no chance of winning the title especially with how scandalous the last summer transfer window was.
Many expected Arsenal to go big in the transfer window but rather than signing what Arsenal needed, Wenger could only sign Kolasinac on a free transfer, and Alexandre Lacazette while letting go the likes of Perez, Gabriel Paulista, Gibbs, Chamberlain, Szczesny and others. Although the first team became stronger with the signing of Lacazette and Kolasinac but the team generally became weaker.
They are currently 6th on the premier league table. The Gunners currently are On 19 points. The same with Liverpool who have a better goals difference. Looking at Arsenal’s performance so far this season and with the form of Chelsea and Manchester United, it will be a big surprise if Arsenal manages to get into the top four this season.
To this end, Arsenal’s hope for silverware this season remains the Europa league, the League cup and the FA Cup. The Europa league in my opinion looks likely to be won by Arsenal and the bookies seem to think so too. Wenger will surely know his position at the club will become untenable come the end of this season if the Gunners are not back in the Champions league. Failure to qualify for Champions league next season means it will be extremely difficult to replace Sanchez and Ozil both of who will most certainly be leaving the club at the end of this season or even in January.
The best betting offers favour Arsenal to win the Europa league. Arsenal are as of the time of writing this article 11/2 odds to win the Europa league via the likes of Ladbrokes, betway and 188bet. A good number of bookies are not taking odds on Arsenal winning the Europa league an indication that they believe it is very likely to happen.
Second favorite with the bookies is AC Milan and Zenith St Petersburg is currently third. However, all of these could change soon with the likes of Dortmund and Atletico Madrid looking like they will be dropping down to the Europa league.
Both Dortmund and Atletico Madrid are good teams and should they find themselves dropping down to the Europa league, they are certainly going to give Arsenal a good run for their money for the trophy. But for now, I think Arsenal have the best chance.
