FIFA World Cup 2018: The Rise And Fall of Kings

The 2018 World Cup will go down as one of the best in the history of the tournament. There were lots of goals, tears, and surprises during all stages of the competition.

The great Germany, who won the previous World Cup, became the third consecutive world champion to get knocked out in the group stage.

Furthermore, both Lionel Messi’s and Cristiano Ronaldo’s teams lost in the round of 16 to the shock of fans all over the world.

As expected, this brought a wave of sadness among fans of the two GOATs who have bossed the scene over the last 10 years. Many believe that these two footballers may have blown their final chance to lift the trophy. Considering that they are currently 31 and 33 respectively, it is questionable whether we will see them playing in Qatar in 2022.

However, two other names became glorious – Kylian Mbappé (France) and Luka Modrić (Croatia). Check the infographic below by bettingsites.me.uk to see how well they performed at the tournament.

France’s 19-year old forward earned the FIFA Young Player award for his marvelous performance throughout the tournament. And obviously still on a roll, the young football genius also recently bagged the FIFA Golden Boy award for 2018.

Croatia’s performance in the final match wasn’t as impressive as their previous games. However, the battle against France was still a heroic one, which is why the team earned so many fans across the globe.

Playing a major role in Croatia’s outstanding matches, Luka Modrić only confirmed his already perfect season. Prior to earning the award for Player of the Tournament at the World Cup, he lifted the Champions League trophy with Real Madrid.

Currently, Luka Modrić holds the title for FIFA Men’s Best Player. This makes him the first player to break the decade-long Cristiano Ronaldo/Messi dominance in this category.
