You probably know that earlier this week, AS Roma achieved one of the greatest feats in the history of the beautiful game. They beat Barcelona and got themselves a place in the semifinal of the Champions League. Of course, this doesn’t mean that they will now forget about everything else. They need to do well in Serie A, as well, especially because in the next round, they play against their biggest rivals, SS Lazio. Can Roma keep on impressing? Find out in this SS Lazio vs. AS Roma match preview!
SS Lazio
SS Lazio are hoping that they will play in the Champions League next season. But, for that, they need to stay in one of the best four places on the table. The problem is that other teams want the same as well. The only way to ensure they remain in a high place is to keep on playing well.
Speaking of their form, Lazio lost to Salzburg this Thursday and got knocked out of the Europa League. This means that the only competition they’re still in is Serie A. What’s impressive about this team is how much they score. They have been fantastic this season in the attack, scoring 75 league goals so far, which is more than any other Serie A team.
Ciro Immobile has played a big role in Lazio’s campaign, scoring 27 goals up to this point, which makes him the top-scorer in Serie A. He’s also made quite a lot of assists this season. In fact, Immobile is currently the second-best player in the league when it comes to the number of assists. The number one player with most assists is another Lazio player – Luis Alberto.
AS Roma
It must be a good feeling playing for Roma right now. Imagine how these players feel after they’ve made one of the biggest achievements ever – knocking out Barcelona in the Champions League quarterfinals. This team managed to go back from 4:1 deficit from the first part of the doubleheader. They beat Barça 3:0, which is something that not many teams have done, at least not in this century.
That game has probably lifted the spirits in the locker room, which is exactly what AS Roma need right now. They have a pretty tough schedule ahead. Apart from playing in the semifinal of the Champions League, they’re also competing for one of the top four positions on Serie A table.
At the moment, they are in the fourth place, but Inter are breathing by their next, with just one point less. What this means is that they can drop to the 5th place if they don’t beat Lazio. Speaking of Lazio, this is the team that’s just above Roma, but with the same number of points. So, if Roma win this match, they will be much closer to achieving their pre-season goals.
