Your Race Card Guide to Spotting a Winner

The 2018 Cheltenham festival is set to take place in just a few weeks’ time as the top National hunt horses’ race for record prize money of £4,590,000 following the recent £8 million injection into races over the season. Most horses have now had their final prep runs so the betting markets have taken shape. This year’s marque event is as always the Gold Cup with the 2018 renewal looking as competitive as ever.

The favourite going in is the 9-year-old Might Bite. Sired by Scorpion he certainly showed those quirks throughout his career and most famously at last year’s festival in the RSA chase. He almost came to a stop up the run in when clear of the field only to be headed by stablemate Whisper and then recover to get back up on the line. This was a stunning achievement in itself which just showed the raw ability the horse possesses.

Throughout this season he hasn’t shown any of those quirks and has continued to get his head in front including most recently in the King George at Kempton over the Christmas period. With many of his challengers having questions to answer he is clearly the most solid option for punters and is likely to take all the beating come the curtain raiser on the Friday afternoon of the festival. Check out this infographic below to decipher what key points to look out for on a race card ahead of the festival.
